French and English has the same morphological typology, so these two languages have similar characteristics in terms of grammar and vocabulary. These similarities, however, make it more difficult for English-majored students to learn French. This article discussed how language interferences resulting from the similarities and differences between the two languages affected English students learning French as a second foreign language at level A1. The issues were studied based on comparisons of the two languages and surveys on students’ perceptions in order put forward some teaching and learning suggestions that help (language) learners easily acquire French at basic levels.
