UTILIZING AUTHENTIC MATERIALS IN TEACHING BRITISH – AMERICAN CULTURE FROM TEACHERS’ PERSPECTIVES

This study investigates the use of authentic materials in teaching British – American Culture for English-majored students from the perspectives of teachers who are directly involved in teaching this course. The arthor makes use of qualitative method via semi-structured interviews with 03 lecturers. The results indicate that the participants all use authentic materials in their teaching. Major sources of authentic materials are Internet-based, which are perceived as beneficial in motivating students’ learning and improving their language competence. However, there still exists some challenges in teachers’ application of authentic materials. From these findings, the author suggests some recommendations to ensure better exploitation of authentic materials in teaching the mentioned course.
