Abstract

In contrastive linguistics, one of the important tasks to be done is to identify the equivalents in the languages involved. In terms of lexicosemantics, equivalent units are defined based on the semantic contents of participating units. To clarify the above mentioned, we analyze the semantic structure of the Russian verbs expressing the establishment of human posture (встать/ вставать, сесть/ садиться, лечь/ лoжиться) and compare them with their equivalents in Vietnamese (đứng lên, ngồi xuống, nằm xuống). The finding are used to point out the similarities and differences between the two languages in an attempt to help Vietnamese learners students of Russian avoid errors caused by language interferences during the transition from Russian to Vietnamese and vice versa
