This paper aims at evaluating “Life”, the course books of General English at level 1/6 - 3/6 (A1 - B1 in CEFR), which have been used for teaching and learning EFT with non-English major students at University of Foreign Languages, Hue University and proposing practical recommendations to improve the students’ language proficiency to reach the required learning outcomes. The study employed the descriptive and quantitative method with questionnaire, interviews and computer instruments to collect and analyze data. The survey was conducted on 145 non-English major students of different language proficiency levels from many Colleges in Hue University, and 28 EFL teachers at ESP Department of University of Foreign Languages, Hue University. The data was analyzed on the Likert scale and served as the main source for the course book evaluation and recommendation of teaching and learning improvement. It also refers as sources of guidance and practical advice.
