Connexity is one of the three reciprocal and fundamental factors creating the so-called textuality, namely coherence, cohesion and convexity. There have been several studies on the use of connectives by scholars from all over the world, and the results of such studies have been applied into the teaching of skills in writing for foreign language learners. However, very few researches in this area have been conducted in Vietnam. This paper presents the findings of a survey on the use of French connectives in essays by 3rd-year students at the Department of French, Hue University of Foreign Languages, and proposes pedagogical suggestions to help students improve their competence of using connectives in French.
