INVESTIGATION INTO THE INFLUENCE OF SMARTPHONE USE ON ENGLISH LEARNING OUTCOMES OF STUDENTS AT NGHE AN UNIVERSITY OF ECONOMICS

Abstract

Smartphones are used for a variety of purposes, differently in frequency and periods of time. The use of smartphones has both positive and negative effects on all aspects in life. For students, using smartphones can help them experience new things and learn necessary skills, yet more or less affects their academic performance. Using a questionnaire adopting a 5-point Likert scale, the researcher collected data reflecting the practice of using smartphones by students at Nghe An University of Economics. Based on the findings, the author determines the degree of influence of the use, and proposes approaches of using smartphones effectively for students at Nghe An University of Economics to take advantage of smartphones to improve their academic performance in general and English competence in particular.
