This study is to compare the production of English plosive stops of Vietnamese and American students. 14 records were analyzed on the Praat software. The results of comparing the voice onset time (VOT) of word-initial stops, duration of word-final stops, and spectrograms showed that VOTs of word-initial stops produced by both groups get longer when the place of articulation moves further back. Some Vietnamese students could not perform final /t/, and /k/, while some American students failed with final /t/. Some recommendation are also suggested for the teaching of phonetics
