Abstract

The verb “ĂN” in Vietnamese language and the verb “먹다” (MOK-TA) in Korean language belong to polysemy. The transfer of meaning in this pair of verbs is based on some important mechanisms of meaning transfer that are necessary to clarify. Proceeding from this requirement, the paper focuses on investigating the pair of verbs involved and then comparing them to find out the linguistic and also cultural similarities and differences between the verb “ĂN” and the verb “먹다” (MOK-TA) in the two languages from the cognitive linguistics. From the results of the research the paper will draw some linguistic features and also socio-cultural features contained in these verbs.
