Abstract

Sino-Vietnamese words account for 60-70% of Vietnamese modern vocabulary, which is an important component of Vietnamese vocabulary. This is a great advantage for Vietnamese students to learn Chinese. However, since Sino-Vietnamese have been introduced into Vietnam for a long time, these words in modern Chinese have changed. After their introduction into Vietnam, they have also changed according to the development of the Vietnamese language, which results in significant differences between Sino-Vietnamese words and Chinese words. This causes Vietnamese students to commit many mistakes when transferring Sino-Vietnamese words into Chinese. In this article, the writer analyzes the results of a survey on errors made by students’ at Thai Nguyen University School of Foreign Languages when doing translations from Vietnamese to Chinese and suggests potential solutions to tackle the problems at their roots.
