FIRST-YEAR STUDENTS’ REFLECTION ON APPLYING THE BAWE CORPUS TO ENGLISH WRITING PRACTICE

This paper presents students’ reflection after using the open version of Sketch Engine tool, which provides free access to the British Academic Written English (BAWE) corpus to correct errors in paragraph writing. The study employs a combination of quantitative and qualitative methods through questionnaires and in-depth interviews to collect data. The data were analyzed using descriptive statistics in SPSS and qualitative analysis. The results show that most learners had a positive outlook on continuing to use the corpus in the future and perceived the corpus approach as beneficial for improving their writing skills and boosting their confidence in English writing.
