Translating in general and literary translating in particular requires the translator’s understanding of both the original and target languages and cultures. In addition, the use of appropriate procedures in translation is critical to the success of the translation. The paper presents some translation techniques based on the theory of translation by certain reseachers in the world and illuminates the nature and role of each translation procedure in relation to the type of text. In the experimental section, the paper selected the subject of the survey as the translation of “Snow White” from German into Vietnamese by Chu Thu Phuong and outlined some of the main translation procedures that the translator used with the corresponding comments and explanations.
